Life On LeConte

This is the longest stretch of beautiful weather I can remember this winter.  I still have 35 inches of snow on the ground despite the warm sun.  The sun melted a lot of snow out of the trees and roof tops but most of the snow is still on the ground.  The 24 hour high reached 35.  It felt much warmer in the sun.  The low was 12 and it is currently 19 degrees.  The wind is very calm.  It was so quiet this morning my ears were ringing.

There is still deep snow around the bluffs on the Alum Cave Trail but the trail is passable.  The snow still comes up to the top of the cables in some spots but a number of day hikers came up the alum cave trail yesterday.  The only trail not crossed recently is the Boulevard Trail.  I would assume that there are still some deep snow drifts on the Boulevard.  Despite deep snow on top of LeConte it looks like another fantastic day for hiking.

Rain Turning The Snow To Slush,1-17-10
It stayed warm enough to rain on LeConte.  We measued 1.6 inches of rainfall.  There's still 12 inches of slushey snow and ice on the ground.  Currently it is 37 degrees out.  There are still cloudy skies with light rain falling.  The low was 35 with a high of 40.  Looks like a good day to stay in and do a little cooking.

On such a nasty day I though I would leave you with this beautiful view of English Mountain I caught yesterday just before the clouds rolled in.  I can look forward to more of this view later this week!
