It's 22 degrees and snowing on Mt. LeConte. Over the last 24 hours we had 3 inches of rain and 2 inches of snow. The skies are gray and the winds are high. It's perfect weather to stay in the kitchen and bake. Last week some nice day hikers brought me some strawberries, blue berries and blackberries. I froze them until I had a good day to make a cobbler. Yesterday was the day! Nothing makes the kitchen smell better than fresh baked bread! It sure is convenient to stop by the store and pick up a loaf of bread but it's not as rewarding as baking your own. I hiked up some sun dried tomatoes, fresh garlic and mozzarella cheese to put in my Italian bread. Notice the pot of tomatoe sauce on the stove. I sent up some of my Mom's canned tomatoes to make sauce with this winter. I will freeze most of that and eat off of it all month. During the winter the dining room isn't heated. I can cook a lot on days like this and store it in the dining room. It's a big freezer in there. I baked biscuits this morning but I didn't have enough left over to save. As soon as the weather breaks I'll have to get out and hike off some of this bread. 13 Comments |
