The clouds settled down below the top of the mountain allowing the sun to shine brightly over Mt. LeConte. It's still cold out , only 12 degrees. There's about 32 inches of snow on the ground. I haven't seen the sun in a few days and I was a little stir crazy! So I got out and made my way through some pretty deep snow. This is our weather station. It's 36 inches from the ground to the bottom of that white box. It seemed like it only took a moment for everything to turn from grey to blue and white. I hiked up to the LeConte Shelter. Someone had been there before me. I tracked them back across camp and down to the split. Whoever it was came up either Rainbow or Bullhead and went back that way. What a fantastic afternoon on LeConte. I hope that whoever hiked to the shelter makes it out alright. It's not easy to hike in deep snow like we have on the mountain now. It is beautiful though. I hope tomorrow i will have more sun and I can get out and see more of the top of LeConte in the snow. 8 Comments |
